My host family!

La Familia Vargas

I recently received the profile of the family I will be living with during my 3 months stay in Turrialba.
The Vargas family consists of three people: Don Demetrio (73), Doña María (63), and their daughter
Laura (36).

Everyone calls Don Demetrio and Doña Maria, Don Mecho and Doña Macha. Don Mecho works part
time as a carpenter and also on the VQC Mission property and garden, and Doña Macha works at
home.

Doña Macha enjoys cooking, sewing, listening to music and dancing. Don Mecho enjoys telling
stories and building things. Their daughter Laura who suffers from Down syndrome, loves collecting
dolls and coloring books.

They also have three other daughters who have children and they all live close by. The entire family
has big hearts, welcoming smiles, and makes you feel as if you were part of their family.  I am so excited to become an extension of this family! I can't wait to meet them!

All Moved In!

The other half of the Berrios family, Eduardo, Deanna and Jaden, have finally said their goodbyes to North Carolina, and HELLO to South Florida! (Until next Thursday, that is!)  They leave for Costa Rica on the 27th of September! Please be praying for their travels to be safe and for everything to go as planned.

Here is Jaden, helping out with the Laundry :)

15 more days...  !!!

As for me, my stay in the States is only for 15 more days before I leave for Costa Rica BRIGHT and EARLY, Saturday morning from Miami International Airport on October 6th!  After arriving to San Jose International Airport, I will then look for a school representative holding up a sign with my name on it!  I then partake on a 2 hour car ride up winding roads into the rural town of Tuis! I will get a chance to settle down and meet with my host family, and Monday begins orientation!  I read that for orientation we get bus a tour of the town of Turrialba, where I will find the bank, drugstores, the central park and an Internet cafe!  I'll be sure to photograph this experience and keep you guys updated on my latest and greatest discoveries and adventures!
